Party Elections
Nov. 16th, 2019 10:45 pmThanks to everyone who supported me. I'm delighted to be elected for the first time to Federal International Relations Committee and to be runner-up for the ALDE Council delegation.
As I understand it, the number of places we have on ALDE depends on our General Election vote, so if we increase our vote on 12th December we will gain more places. I'd be very happy to be added to the delegation !
I normally attend ALDE Congress (see recent post about the meeting in Athens in October) but these elections mean I'll potentially be doing a lot more international work for the party. According to Lib Dem colleagues in ALDE, the other UK parties have been reducing their participation in international bodies and events, so our party has a particular responsibility to represent UK interests and priorities in Europe and the wider world.
Of course, stopping Brexit is our top priority but there has been a vast outflow of jobs, capital and influence from the UK since 2016 so we have a lot of work to do.
